The Wild Carrot
My name is Ruthie, but in the kitchen I like to go by the Wild Carrot. I am wild in that I enjoy trying new recipes, hosting dinners for my friends, and laughing loudly. I am a carrot because I am passionate about using local and organic ingredients to root myself to the earth and find renewal. This blog encompasses both my sparkly passions and earthy comforts, and is representative of who I am and how I cook. Every dish embodies the best of Pacific Northwest cooking: elevated, healthy comfort foods with fresh vegetables and superior protein, and the hallmarks of Scandinavian food culture: eating seasonally, plating with intention, and mixing flavors and textures to create a dish that whispers, welcome home.
I live in Seattle, WA with my spirited dog, Douk, but have strong ties to the coast of Maine and Copenhagen. I love planning my day around the next meal, and see grocery shopping as a game to spend less while satisfying more. I am passionate about creating a mindful kitchen where I can tune out the world and tune in to my sense of self with every sip of soup, with every crunch of kale.
