The Wild Carrot's 2020 List of Yum

The Wild Carrot's 2020 List of Yum

Two years ago today, I birthed a little blog. I shared five recipes inspired by Fall’s bounty of vegetables and my own love for creativity and plates that sparkle. In all my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined that my second year in the blogging world would be one marked by a global pandemic, the epicenter that changed the way we cooked, ate, celebrated and nourished ourselves.

My plans for growing food and wine photography clients halted. I learned I am terrible at making sourdough bread, but quite talented at making homemade pizza. I missed every backyard barbecue, game night with friends, and weekend at the wineries terribly. The blog shifted too. I allowed myself to pivot how I ate, what and when I posted, and for whom and why I write.

Today I am writing for the blog, for her, on her birthday. I am a big believer in birthdays. I’ve always said, no matter what’s going on, you should let the important people in your life know you love them on their birthdays. So even though my blog and I are finding our new secret ingredients, we’re still here for one another. I know this. I think about us and how we’re growing from what we were to what we will become. I check on her often, most often when I need that ratio of spices for my favorite red lentil soup I’ve made at least ten times this year. I know that others are checking on her too - she’s still getting visitors even if I’m not publishing as often as I once was. She’s still here. We’re still here together. And we still have lots of yum to offer.

For my blog’s birthday this year, I’m going to share a list of yum. Yum that’s gotten us through this year; that you also might enjoy. If you feel like it, have a slice of carrot cake with us tonight. Make your own wish on a candle. You’ve been here for us. We’re still here for you. Birthdays are for sharing, and this list of yum is our way to say,

thank you.
